Workshop · The Academy

The body you actually live in.

Care, autonomy, and real research about the only home you can't move out of. This workshop builds the practice of paying attention to your body before it has to yell at you.

Kids get a lot of confusing information about their bodies. Some of it is dressed up as fun. Some is dressed up as science. Some is designed to sell them something. Almost none of it is designed to actually help.

The Body workshop starts from a different place: your body is talking to you all the time. Most kids never learn to hear it. So they end up sick when they didn't have to be, tired when they didn't have to be, and confused about their own energy. That is fixable. It starts with listening.

Nothing on this workshop is theoretical. Every practice is one a real kid can try tomorrow. Every explanation is written in language kids can actually use. No fluff. No panic. Just how the body actually works and what to do with that.

The Body Shelf

Real practices for the only home you can't move out of. These are the fundamentals every cadet should know before they leave elementary school.

Foundation · Ages 7-12
The Signal-Before-Symptom Journal
A one-page daily check-in. Answer three questions before bed: was I tired for no reason today, was I thirsty a lot, and did any part of me hurt. Kids who track this catch problems weeks before adults do.
Practice · Ages 8-12
The Ten-Minute Move Rule
Ten minutes of any movement, no equipment, every day. Walking counts. Dancing counts. Climbing counts. It's not a workout. It's a promise your body learns to trust.
Practice · Ages 9-12
The Water-Before-Snack Habit
Before you reach for a snack, drink a full glass of water. Ninety percent of the time you were thirsty, not hungry. That single habit changes a body's whole week.
Vocabulary · Ages 8-12
Words your doctor uses (and what they mean)
Sleep hygiene. BMI. Immune response. Hydration. Nutrient density. Doctors won't dumb these down for a kid — but a kid who knows them shows up to appointments as a partner, not a passenger.
Safety · Ages 7-12
The Body Autonomy Rule
Nobody — not a coach, not a doctor, not a family member, not a friend — gets to touch, photograph, or ask about your body in a way that feels wrong. And you never have to keep a secret about your body. Ever. From anyone.
Curator's note
The shelf grows slowly
Every practice on this shelf was tested by the curator's family before it landed here. If a practice made a real kid's week better, it stays. If it didn't, it comes off.
The four practice areas
ROADMAP

The path through

Three lessons stacked in order — what your body is asking for, how to listen, and how to respond without panicking or ignoring. Take them in sequence.

TOOLS

Methods that work

Five practical tools you can use today — water tracking, sleep notes, the body scan, the energy log, the daily check-in. None of them complicated. All of them real.

PLAYGROUND

Try things here

A safe space to test what works for YOUR body specifically. Other kids have different bodies. The playground is for finding what fits yours.

KIT

What to keep

Reusable references you take with you — a sleep schedule template, a water tracker, a hunger-vs-thirst card. Print them, save them, use them when you need them.
