Workshop · The Academy

The first language that doesn't lie.

Math tells you exactly what's true and exactly what isn't. We treat it like a game because it is one. The workshop builds the muscle behind the planet.

Math is not memorization. Math is not tricks. Math is a way of thinking — the same way engineers, scientists, musicians, chefs, and money managers actually use it. Most schools miss that entirely.

This workshop starts from a different place. You'll learn a few real tools — how to estimate, how to break a hard problem down, how to check if an answer is nonsense — that will serve you for the rest of your life. None of them require you to be a math kid.

Kids who "aren't good at math" are almost always kids who were taught math badly. Given the right first steps, every kid can build a working relationship with the subject. That is what this workshop is trying to give you.

The Math Shelf

Real practices for a subject most kids hate because most adults teach it wrong. This workshop teaches it right.

Foundation · Ages 7-12
The Estimate Reflex
Before you calculate anything, guess. Not because guessing is right. Because guessing tells you what right looks like. A kid who estimates first will catch nine out of ten calculator mistakes before they happen.
Practice · Ages 8-12
The Breakdown Rule
Any hard problem = small problem + small problem + small problem. Solve the small ones. Never try to hold the whole thing in your head. This is how real mathematicians and engineers actually work.
Concept · Ages 9-12
Fractions are everywhere
Half a pizza. Three-quarters of an hour. Two-thirds of the way home. Fractions are how the real world talks. The kids who see this instead of memorizing rules stop being scared of them almost overnight.
Concept · Ages 10-12
Percentages are just fractions in fancy clothes
50% = half. 25% = one quarter. 10% = one tenth. If you can do fractions, you can do percentages. Adults who never learned this trick struggle with money for their whole lives. You do not have to.
Practice · Ages 9-12
The Sanity Check
Every answer needs one question: does that make sense? If you're calculating how many candy bars fit in a lunchbox and you get 4,782, something is wrong. This one habit catches more errors than any other.
Reference · Ages 10-12
The math you will actually use forever
Basic arithmetic. Fractions and percentages. Rough mental estimation. Reading a chart. Understanding probability at a kid-level. Those five. Everything else is optional. But those five will run your whole adult life.
The four practice areas
ROADMAP

The path through

Three lessons — what math is FOR, the patterns that show up everywhere, and how to read a math problem when it looks scary.

TOOLS

Methods that work

The break-it-down move. The "what does this number REPRESENT" question. The estimate-first rule. The check-your-work habit.

Enter Tools →
PLAYGROUND

Try things here

Math puzzles that build your eye for patterns. Not graded. No timer. The playground is where math becomes fun on purpose.

KIT

What to keep

The pattern-spotter card. The break-it-down template. Real-world math examples that show you when the planet matters.
