First Refinement constellation

A weak prompt gives you a weak answer. Every time.

You already know that. You learned it in the first workshop. What you'll learn in this one is what professionals do that nobody tells you: they don't write one prompt and stop. They write a prompt, look at the answer, and write a better follow-up. Over and over. That's the loop.

It's called iteration. The cadet who irons a prompt three times gets answers ten times better than the cadet who fires off one prompt and gives up. This is why the same AI tool gives one person magic and another person trash.

By the end of this workshop you'll diagnose a weak prompt, repair one, order a stack of follow-ups, and write a 3-prompt stack of your own for a real project. The First Refinement constellation appears in your sky.

Step 2 · Diagnose

Here's a weak prompt and the answer it got. What's missing?

Multi-select. Pick everything that's missing from the prompt. There are at least three problems here.

The prompt
"write me something cool"
What the AI gave back
Sure! Here's something cool: "The night sky holds more stars than every grain of sand on every beach." Cool, right? Let me know if you want something else!

Step 3 · Repair

Now repair it. Rewrite the prompt with at least three of the four pieces.

Pick a topic you actually like. Add specifics. Add context. Add a format. The checklist on the right will light up as you add each piece. You need at least three lit before you can save.

0 / 40 characters
What it has so far
Specifics A topic, a number, a real thing
Context Who it's for, what it's about
Format Length, shape, style
Examples "Like X" or "in the style of Y"

Step 4 · Stack

Put these four prompts in the right order to build a project

You're trying to write a short story about a kid who builds a treehouse. Tap each prompt below in the order you'd send them — the smartest cadet builds in stages, not all at once.

Step 5 · Build

Build a 3-prompt stack for a real project of your own

Pick something you'd actually want to build with an AI's help. A story. A song. An explanation. A plan. Then write three prompts — not at once, but as a chain. Each one builds on what the AI gave you the prompt before.

Prompt 1 · Open
Start broad. Brainstorm, list, or explore.
0 / 25 characters
Prompt 2 · Narrow
Pick one thing from the first answer and dig into it.
0 / 25 characters
Prompt 3 · Refine
Polish, fix, or push it further.

Step 6 · Reflect

What's a question you're going to bring to an AI tomorrow?

Not a hypothetical. A real one. Something you've been wondering about. Write it down so it's no longer just floating around — it's an assignment to yourself.
