Five steps. About 25 minutes. Up to 7 stars. The constellation you're building is called First Ear.
Most people hear songs. Builders take them apart while they're listening.
A song-builder doesn't just feel a song. They feel and notice what made the feeling. The drum that comes in late. The voice that almost cracks but doesn't. The space where nothing is happening on purpose.
Once you start hearing songs that way, you can't really un-hear it. Every song you've already loved shows you another room. Every song you've never liked starts making more sense.
Five steps. About 25 minutes. By the end you'll have written down three things you noticed in a song you already know — things you used to walk right past.
That's the warm-up. When you've actually read it — not skimmed — tap below.
Pick all that fit. More than one. Building-listening is the kind that notices, not the kind that just enjoys.
Click one piece on the left, then click what to listen for on the right.
Pick any song. Listen all the way through. Stay still. Write at least 3 specific things you caught this time.
Stuck? Try a song you played earlier today. Listen for the moment a new instrument arrives, or for a word the singer almost swallows.
One sentence is enough. Two is better.
