The Studio · Workshop 06 · Practice
Five steps. About 25 minutes. Up to 7 stars. The constellation you're building is called First Critique.
The hardest skill in any studio isn't writing. It's telling another builder the truth in a way they can use.
There are two bad kinds of feedback. The first is being mean — "that's terrible" tells a builder nothing they can fix. The second is being too nice — "it's great" feels good but the song doesn't get better.
Useful feedback names one specific thing the builder did, says what it does in the song, and (if it's not working) suggests one move — not five.
By the end of this workshop you'll have written one piece of feedback you'd actually want to receive.
That's the warm-up. When you've actually read it — not skimmed — tap below.
Pick the ones that would actually help a builder. There are several.
Click one kind on the left, then what it does on the right.
Imagine a friend just played you their first song. Write one specific piece of feedback — name a moment, say what it did, and (if needed) suggest one move. Don't be mean. Don't be empty.
Stuck? Pretend the friend played you a song where the chorus is 12 seconds late and the first verse drags. Write the kindest, most specific note that says exactly that.
One short rule, in your own words.
