First Echo constellation

When you repeat back what someone said in your own words, two things happen. They feel actually heard. AND you find out where the message got scrambled in transit.

It's called paraphrasing. "So what you're saying is..." or "Let me make sure I understood — you mean..." Then you restate the message in your own words, not theirs.

Most of the time, the other person says "yes, exactly" and feels deeply heard. But sometimes they say "no, what I actually meant was..." — and now you're having a different (better, more honest) conversation than you would have had.

By the end of this workshop you'll have paraphrased something difficult and noticed what changed.

Step 4 · Create

Paraphrase one real thing someone says to you today

Try it with a grown-up, sibling, or friend. After they say something that matters — even small — paraphrase it back. Write what you said and how they reacted.

Stuck? Try with a parent at dinner. When they tell you about their day, before you respond, say "so it sounds like the meeting went better than you expected, but you're worried about tomorrow's deadline." Watch what happens.
