Workshop · The Academy

The big picture for what your mind is doing.

Feelings, fears, thoughts, focus — sanity is the planet where they all sit. This workshop teaches you to notice what's happening inside your head before it runs your day.

Every kid has hard days. The ones who don't tell anyone are not the ones who don't have them. They are the ones who learned early that nobody was listening. The point of this workshop is to reverse that.

Feelings are not the enemy. Feelings are information. Big feelings mean big information. The skill this workshop teaches is not how to make hard feelings go away. It is how to hear what they are telling you before they take the wheel.

Nobody on this workshop is going to tell you your feelings are wrong. They are not. But some of them are lying to you. Sadness that says nobody likes you is lying. Anger that says the whole world is against you is lying. Learning to tell true feelings from lying feelings is a life skill.

The Sanity Shelf

Real practices for hard days. Not affirmations. Not tricks. The tools kids can actually use when the feelings are loud.

Foundation · Ages 7-12
The Name-It-First Rule
When a big feeling shows up, name it out loud before you do anything else. Angry. Scared. Ashamed. Just naming it slows it down. Half the storm is not knowing what the storm is.
Practice · Ages 8-12
The Ten-Minute Wait
When you want to say the mean thing, or send the angry text, or hit the wall — wait ten minutes. Not because the feeling is wrong. Because ten minutes teaches you what you actually meant to do.
Practice · Ages 9-12
The One Honest Person
Every kid needs one person they can tell anything to and they will still be there. It does not have to be a parent. It has to be someone who has proven they can keep quiet AND stay kind. If you don't have one, that's not a personal failure. That's a search you can start.
Signal · Ages 8-12
Anger has a smaller feeling under it
Anger is loud. Under it is almost always hurt, scared, ignored, or ashamed. The anger is not the real thing. The smaller feeling is. Kids who learn to name the smaller feeling stop repeating the same fights.
Practice · Ages 10-12
The 24-Hour Rule for Social Media
If something someone said online is stuck in your head, put the phone down for 24 hours. If it's still stuck the next day, then it's real information about the person. Most of the time, it isn't.
Reference · Emergency
When to tell a grown-up right now
Any thought of hurting yourself. Any thought of not wanting to be here. Any adult who is asking you to keep a secret you know is wrong. Any feeling that has stayed dark for weeks. These are not weakness. These are alarms. Tell one adult. Then, if they don't listen, tell another.
