The Network · Workshop 09 · Mastery
Five steps. About 25 minutes. Up to 7 stars. The constellation you're building is called First Build.
Theory is for getting ready. Build is for proving you can. Use the Network Simulator on this planet to construct your own working network.
The Network Simulator is one of two interactive tools on this planet (the other is the Periodic Table over on The Lab). It lets you place virtual devices — routers, switches, computers — on a canvas, wire them together, and send packets across the network you built.
Your job in this workshop is to plan one specific network before you open the simulator: what devices, in what shape, doing what. Then you build it. Then you write what you learned.
By the end of this workshop you'll have planned, built, and tested your first network.
That's the warm-up. When you've actually read it — not skimmed — tap below.
Pick all that would teach you something.
Click a device, then what it does.
Write what you'll build. Devices, how they connect, and one specific test you'll run after you build it (like 'send a packet from device A to device C').
Stuck? Plan: 3 computers (A, B, C) all connected to one switch. Test: send a packet from A to C. Expect: the switch reads the destination and forwards to C only, not to B. (Real switches do this; that's part of why they're better than old hubs.)
One sentence.
